Budj Bim National Park - Partial Closure

On the 10th March 2025 a bushfire started in Budj Bim National Park from a lightening strike.  The bushfire burned 2,200 hectares (40% of the park). Due to the intensity of the bushfire a significant amount of habitat and wildlife were impacted.

The emergency response led by DEECA for bushfire and wildlife concluded on Friday 9th May 2025.

As a result of the emergency event, some areas of the park are closed to the public until it is safe to re-open.  Hazardous conditions may remain inside the bushfire footprint.

Closed Areas are signed to inform park users. The closed park areas are enforceable via the National Parks Regulations 2024.  Refer to map for open and closed park areas.

Visitors to the area are requested to obey all signage, to ensure the safety of park operations and park visitors. Visitors are required to stay on a track where a sign requests a person to stay on a track.

Visitor Areas open to the public include:
- Lake Surprise visitor precinct
- Picnic Area, campground and toilets
- Lake Surprise. Crater Rim and Lava Canal Walking Tracks

Visitor Areas closed to the public:
- Foote Cave
